McGregor downplays chance of fighting Nurmagomedov due to injury history

'He's not frequent enough', says the Irishman, remembering the undefeated Russian's relatively inactive history recently

UFC 205, an event held last Saturday (12), in New York (USA), placed Conor McGregor e Khabib Nurmagomedov on a collision course. However, the Irishman does not welcome the possibility of facing the Russian, especially given his turbulent injury history.

At the event, McGregor ran over Eddie Alvarez to become the organization's new lightweight champion. Nurmagomedov remained undefeated in professional MMA by also winning resoundingly Michael Johnson.

A duel between McGregor and Nurmagomedov would be one of the logical steps for the UFC at the moment, but the new champion feels insecure about the idea. “He had a great performance, congratulations to him. But let's see what happens. I need to see activity, consistency. I need to see myself in it. If you want me to choose you to change your life, you need to give me reasons to do so. He doesn't fight often enough for my taste. For me to commit to someone like that, I need solid proof that he’s going to show up,” McGregor said.

Since May 2014, Nurmagomedov has had just two fights: he beat Darrell Horcher in April this year and Johnson last Saturday. During this period, the Russian suffered a series of injuries to his knee, which even took him out of commitments scheduled against Tony Ferguson in the octagon.
