Jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Patino Macaco announced this Friday that he will change categories. Monkey, who until then competed in the middleweight division (up to 84kg), decided to move down to welterweight (up to 77kg) thinking about even fighting in the UFC.
“I'm going to go down to 77kg, because I think we have to know how to deal with height, size, weight and I've always been a very strong and short guy and that hurt me in fights. Let’s work towards it,” she said.
“The plans for 2008 are big. I got some contacts for myself and I'm going to downgrade. You have to start eating around the edges and then eat the middle. I don't mind fighting in smaller events, where I can reach and win the belt, so that, in the future, I can reach my goal, which is Ultimate Fighting (UFC). Then yes, with a belt on my body, I can negotiate bigger stocks”, he added.
