Aldo has shown a desire to retire from the sport since it was confirmed that his long-awaited rematch with Conor McGregor for the definitive belt would not happen, as the Irishman will fight for the lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez in November. The Brazilian and his manager, André Pederneiras, spoke with UFC president, Dana White, and Sean Shelby, responsible for booking the fights, to discuss the contractual situation.

After hours of conversations, Aldo said he was relieved with the meeting. “I didn’t come here simply to cancel my contract. I came here because I had a lot on my chest that I wanted to say, and that's what happened. I will follow my path and the UFC will follow itss. Time will tell what the future holds. I came from Brazil with ideas firmly in my head. My intention is not to fight anymore, and that hasn't changed. That’s how I felt when I left Brazil and that’s how I feel today”, said the fighter, in an interview with the North American website “ESPN”.

Aldo last fought in July of this year, when he crashed Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 to win the interim belt. Before that, he had lost to McGregor by knockout, and since then, the Irishman has not defended his title.
