Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida rediscovered his victory in the 129th edition of the event. With an overwhelming knockout of the Hall of Famer Randy Couture, the Brazilian ended a series of two consecutive defeats in his career and resumed his journey in search of the belt he once owned.

Machida revealed that Joe Silva's goal, matchmakers of the UFC, was to marry the fight between him and Ryan bader. However, the North American ended up being finished by Tito Ortiz at UFC 132, a fact that, for the Brazilian, may have disrupted the manager's plans.
“First they wanted to cast me against Bader, but his loss to Ortiz left me without an opponent again. I could face Rampage or Jones, but both will not face each other for the belt, and most of the light heavyweight athletes already have fights scheduled”, highlighted Machida.
Given the current scenario in the UFC's 93 kg category, the Brazilian sees no other option than to repeat the confrontation with Ortiz. The former champions faced each other in 2008 at UFC 84, where Machida won a unanimous decision from the judges. According to the Bahian based in Pará, a new positive result against the “Bad Boy of Hunnington Beach” could put him closer to a future challenger position for the event title.
“A new fight against Tito would be interesting. Not because of the financial side, but because of what it can represent in my search for the belt. I would certainly readily accept this fight,” he said.
