The American himself recently expressed his dissatisfaction with his pay in Ultimate, and even left open the possibility of taking a break from fighting to dedicate himself to a modeling career. However, Rockhold reached an agreement with the UFC, and believes that, if the negotiation is done well, all athletes can improve their conditions.
“We are in a period of transition. I think there is a positive change in sport and people are starting to realize that it is about negotiations, about knowing your value. These guys want to leave you hungry, always needing more,” she commented, in an interview with the “Extra Rounds” podcast.
After conversations with the UFC, Rockhold was confirmed in a duel against Ronaldo Jacare in Australia, in November. For him, the situation is positive from both the financial and sporting aspects. “They restructured the deal, so now we have a new contract. The contract increases the money and now we have the right fight, so it's the right thing for me to fight for the title again. We are clearly two of the best guys in the category, so this will solidify me to win the belt again”, he celebrated.
Rockhold was UFC middleweight champion between December 2015 and June 2016. In his first title defense, the American was knocked out by Michael Bisping.
