Former UFC champion arrested in the United States

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Ricco rodriguez went through an unpleasant situation this Wednesday (18). The fighter was arrested in the United States accused of assaulting a taxi driver and resisting arrest.

Rodriguez, who has a professional record of 46 wins and 11 losses, requested a taxi this Wednesday in the city of Ahwatukee, Arizona, but upon learning that the fare would be US$75 (around R$ 120) was unhappy with the charge and complained to the driver. After an argument, Rodriguez attacked the taxi driver and took him to the ground. The police were called, but Ricco resisted arrest and tried to attack the officers, having to be handcuffed and taken to the police station.

“It’s our policy to handcuff behind your back,” said Sergeant Steve Martos, who spoke about Rodriguez’s behavior during his team’s action. “He was fighting with the police officers, hitting the officers with his arms,” added the official.

In his career as a professional, Ricco Rodriguez, 34 years old, has played in major events such as the UFC, where he was champion, Pride and was the winner of the ADCC in 1999 (a ground fighting tournament promoted in the “Arab World”). In his last performance, in March this year, the American defeated James McSweeney, in a unanimous decision by the judges at BAMMA 5.
