'No one can touch me when I'm 100%', says Velasquez

Hampered by injuries in recent years, former heavyweight champion reveals that he has made adjustments to 'get back to performing as he would like'

Cain Velazquez He is no longer UFC heavyweight champion, but he believes that, if he hadn't suffered from injuries in recent years, he would still be at the top of the division. For him, no other athlete in the division “would be able to touch him” in the fights in which he performs in 100% of his conditions.

Velasquez was UFC champion on two occasions, between 2010 and 2011 and between 2012 and 2015. In both times, the American of Mexican descent suffered from different types of injuries, which even left him inactive for a long time .

Now physically recovered, Velasquez guarantees that he is still the most dangerous heavyweight fighter. “People know that if I go into a fight at 100%, there is no one who can touch me. I still feel that way when I go to training every day,” he said, in an interview with the North American podcast “The MMA Hour”.

To get back to his old form, Velasquez admits he needed to make adjustments to his preparation. “There were just a few things I had to change to be that guy again. A little more rest during my workouts, more maintenance work on my body. This way I can perform the way I want,” he explained.
