Cain Velazquez He is no longer UFC heavyweight champion, but he believes that, if he hadn't suffered from injuries in recent years, he would still be at the top of the division. Velasquez was UFC champion on two occasions, between 2010 and 2011 and between 2012 and 2015. In both times, the American of Mexican descent suffered from different types of injuries, which even left him inactive for a long time .
Now physically recovered, Velasquez guarantees that he is still the most dangerous heavyweight fighter. “People know that if I go into a fight at 100%, there is no one who can touch me. I still feel that way when I go to training every day,” he said, in an interview with the North American podcast “The MMA Hour”.
To get back to his old form, Velasquez admits he needed to make adjustments to his preparation. “There were just a few things I had to change to be that guy again. A little more rest during my workouts, more maintenance work on my body. This way I can perform the way I want,” he explained.
In his last fight, Velasquez ran over Travis Browne at UFC 200 in July. The current category champion is Stipe Miocic, which defends against alistair overeem this Saturday (10), at UFC 203.
