At the time, the fighter was in the corner of Mike Perry, who faced the Korean Hyun Gyu Lim. Shortly before the start of the duel, Nicholson shouted to Perry that Lim “couldn't open his f***ing eyes”, as a way of encouraging his colleague to act aggressively in the fight.

The comment generated negative repercussions on social media, which caused the UFC to respond to what happened and condemn Nicholson's attitude. The organization guaranteed that, if something like this happens again, the athlete will be cut from the squad.

“UFC competitor Alex Nicholson made a derogatory comment to another UFC athlete while cornering his teammate Mike Perry at UFC 202. The UFC addressed the matter with Nicholson and Perry to express their disappointment with the insensitive statement. Therefore, the organization informed Nicholson that any problem of this nature could result in a suspension or even the termination of his contract,” the organization said in a statement.
