The heavy weight alistair overeem is suspicious of some statements about astronomical salaries received in combat sports. In a chat with journalists in the city of Los Angeles (USA), Overeem revealed that he does not believe in the fighters Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, multiple boxing champion, when they talk about the amounts they receive. According to the Dutchman, they will only be able to prove what they say if they show the bank statements.

“My response to all of this, to Mayweather and Conor, is for them to let me see the bank account statement. You can say, you can talk, you can tweet, but let me see the bank statements that say that the UFC gave you X amount of money. It will always be like this. People lie. This is the 21st century. Social media is a lie”, said Alistair.

As revealed by the Nevada Athletic Commission, McGregor received 3 million dollars (R$9,75 million) for his last fight at UFC 202, when he won Nate diaz by points. This was the highest salary ever received by an MMA athlete. Floyd, who retired undefeated after 49 professional boxing fights, is also known for boasting the millionaire sums he earned from his fights. In mid-2015, a survey released by the American magazine “Forbes” revealed that the boxer earned almost R$1 billion in the period from June 1, 2014 to June 1, 2015, surpassing, for example, football stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite recognizing that the controversial style of McGregor and Mayweather yields “larger” checks, Overeem guarantees that he will not change his style, mainly because it is a cultural characteristic. “I'm from Holland, and there we like to dress well, we like to be cool. But what I don't like is having piles of money on the table and in the cars. For us, in our culture – and in this respect I am very proud to be Dutch – (these attitudes) are just attracting problems, attracting difficulties. I do what I think is right. It brings me happiness,” he stated.
