North American Kyle Snyder, just 20 years old, made history at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by overcoming Azerbaijani Khetag Gazyumov, this Sunday (21), in the freestyle wrestling final, in the 97 kg category. With the 3-1 victory, he becomes the youngest American athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, surpassing Henry Cejudo, UFC flyweight fighter, who had won first place at the Beijing Games in 2008, at the age of 21. Detail: Snyder is only three months younger, as he will turn 21 in November.

Snyder has competed in wrestling since 2013, when he won the World Junior Championship in the sport. At 20 years old, he has achieved several achievements, including the world title, won in 2015, in Las Vegas (USA). With the Olympics over, the expectation is that the young man will move to MMA very soon.

Cejudo, who had his record surpassed by Kyle, took to social media to congratulate his compatriot. “Congratulations to Snyder for not only winning the Olympics but also for being the youngest to do so. I was the record holder today and I can honestly say I was inspired and honored to see Kyle make history. Congratulations! You are my hero”, published the UFC fighter.
