A worrying scene marked the main card of Aspera FC 43, an event held last Saturday (13), in Paranaguá, Paraná. Saimon de Oliveira knocked out Henrique Santos with a choke, and the fight referee, Gastão Júnior, took a long time to help the unconscious athlete.
Everything happened in the initial moments of the fight. Santos dove for his opponent's legs and applied the takedown, but Oliveira got up and managed a very tight guillotine choke. A few seconds later, Henrique was already showing signs that he was unconscious, with his legs and arms relaxed, but without the referee noticing. Almost 20 seconds later, Gastão intervened and separated the athletes.
In an interview with the channel “Esporte Interativo”, which broadcast the event, the referee explained what happened. “When we see the finish, we do some tests to see if the athlete is still responding. When he goes out, he loses all strength in his arm, but that hadn't happened before. So, I let it happen until this was confirmed”, said Gastão.
