MMA veteran and member of the UFC Hall of Fame, Ken Shamrock adopted a different stance regarding doping in the sport. For him, certain substances that are currently prohibited should be released for use, as long as it is at a “safe level”.

The issue came up again last week, when Jon Jones was removed from UFC 200 for failing a surprise drug test, carried out in June. Although the substance in question has not yet been released, Shamrock believes that tolerance should be a little less strict than what is seen today.

“I think it is very clear and I have already taken a position on it. I believe this needs to be regulated, reaching a point where athletes can use it at a safe level. Because this helps, it helps your health and your recovery”, he said, in an interview with the broadcaster program “AXS TV”.

Shamrock considered Jones' cut and the permission for him to be contradictory. Brock Lesnar was released to fight in the same event. The North American giant did not go through the mandatory four months of testing to be able to fight, as he was confirmed in the attraction only 30 days before it took place. “Today, the commandment is zero tolerance. We see Dana White saying that such a thing is unacceptable, that they will not allow these things to happen. But then they climb Brock Lesnar, who did not perform all the tests, to fight. What is the message they send to everyone?”, he pointed out.

Shamrock, 52 years old, still works as a professional MMA fighter. In his most recent performance, in February, in front of Royce gracie, the veteran failed the pre-fight anti-doping test.
