Early UFC 200 weigh-in has drama and Anderson 'light'

Many consider that the new early weigh-in format reduced the drama on the eve of UFC events. However, that was not what happened this Friday (8), at the official weigh-in for the historic UFC 200 event, which takes place this Saturday, in Las Vegas, in the United States.

During the ceremony, which took place in the morning local time, some of the main athletes on the card had to wear towels and be naked to reach the necessary weight to confirm their fights.

This happened, for example, with José Aldo e Daniel Cormier, which face, respectively, Frankie Edgar e Anderson Silva on the main card. Aldo initially recorded 66 kg exactly, around 0,2 kg above the category limit. The Brazilian then got naked to lose the remaining weight.

Cormier, in turn, weighed himself directly with the towel and recorded 93,4 kg. As the fight with Anderson is not worth the title, the American was released to fight – if there was a belt at stake, the weight limit would be 93 kg.

Another tense moment involved the main fight of the event. Women's bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate He almost missed the weigh-in time, as he stepped on the scale in the final minutes of the two-hour window available to athletes. The North American weighed herself naked and weighed 61 kg, confirming her fight against Amanda nunes.

However, Anderson Silva he was completely oblivious to the drama and demonstrated enormous calm. The former middleweight champion weighed himself with his clothes on and was well below the weight limit for the category, weighing in at 90 kg. In the end, the only one to fail was the former welterweight champion John hendricks, which was just above the allowed 77,5 kg.

The official ceremony with the reading of all the weights, plus the athletes' faces, will take place at 19pm Brasília time.
