More than remaining champion of the women's straw category, Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants to make history in the UFC. The Pole hopes to become the first woman to win titles in two different categories, something that was only achieved by B.J. Penn and Randy Couture in men's categories.

On July 8th, Jedrzejczyk faces her arch-rival Claudia Gadelha to defend his title again. Then, if she wins, she hopes to get a new belt. As the other women's division is the bantamweight division (61 kg), in terms of weight far from the strawweight category (52 kg), Joanna hopes that the flyweight division will be created in this range.

“I think it will be my last fight with Claudia Gadelha, because I have plans to move to another category. Fighting at 57 kg would be an option for a future title. Let’s see”, said Jedrzejczyk, in a conference call with the press last Wednesday (29).

The women's flyweight category officially does not yet exist in the UFC, although Valerie Létourneau and Joanne calderwood dueled at 57 kg at UFC Ottawa a few weeks ago. Thus, the Polish woman hopes that this was the first step towards the new category. “I believe so, so I know it will happen. It was a good fight between Valerie and JoJo, but I think we need that division. Many rooster girls can go down and many straw girls can go up. So, we should create this division,” she opined.

Jedrzejczyk and Gadelha face each other in the finals of TUF 23, on the eve of UFC 200, in Las Vegas (USA). It will be the second confrontation between the two: in 2014, Jedrzejczyk beat the Brazilian in a close decision by the judges.
