Jimmo, 34 years old, was killed moments after a traffic dispute, when the other driver in question intentionally ran him over. The fighter was rescued by an ambulance at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.
Other MMA athletes took to social media to pay tribute to Jimmo, highlighting his laid-back and friendly personality. “Wow, this is surreal. Being around him in training provided a lot of laughs. He was another one of the good men lost to madness,” the UFC lightweight wrote Michael Johnson.
Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman also reacted with surprise to the news. “Wow, sad to hear about the recent and tragic death of Ryan Jimmo. Terrible! My prayers go out to his family at this time,” he stated.
UFC welterweight Matt Brown also highlighted the Canadian's high spirits. “Jimmo was a great guy who I had the opportunity to train with a few times. I have nothing to say about it other than good things. May he rest in peace.”
Frankie Edgar, former UFC lightweight champion, was another who appeared shocked. “Terrible news again. Rest in peace, Ryan Jimmo, and my condolences go out to your family.”
Finally, two other fighters expressed their desire to see whoever was responsible for the act identified. “If that is what happened, it was something senseless. I hope they catch whoever is responsible,” said UFC fighter Elias Theodorou. Angela Hill, ex-UFC and currently at Invicta, echoed: “I hope they find the coward responsible. It’s another senseless death this year.”
Jimmo had seven fights in the UFC between 2012 and 2015, with three wins and four losses. His last fight in the organization was in May last year, when he ended up losing to Brazilian Francimar Bodão in Goiânia.
