Edgar plans to beat Aldo and face McGregor in New York

North American says it is impossible to know how Brazilians will react to the defeat they suffered against the Irish in December 2015

With an eye on winning the linear featherweight belt and triumphing in two different categories, Frankie Edgar You already have a plan in mind. He expects to hit José Aldo at UFC 200, in July, to be able to challenge the champion Conor McGregor at UFC 205 in November.

For Edgar, this plan is perfect not only because of winning the title itself, but also because it is practically in his homeland – the fighter is from New Jersey, a state neighboring New York. “You can’t write anything better than that. Why wouldn't Conor want to fight at MSG [Madison Square Garden, New York gym]? There’s definitely a big Irish community in New York and it could be the biggest fight in UFC history,” he said, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

The UFC 200 duel will be Aldo's first since he lost to McGregor in just 13 seconds in December last year. Although the Brazilian insists that the setback is a thing of the past, Edgar does not rule out the possibility that Aldo still feels the effects of the defeat. “Being dominant for so long and then losing like that, to Conor, who is the worst guy to lose like that. Some guys can get over it, some guys can't. He can say this or that before the fight, but he won't know [how he will react] until he steps into the Octagon”, he commented.

The fight between Aldo and Edgar will put the division's interim belt at stake. The two have already faced each other once, in 2013, with the Brazilian winning by the judges' decision.
