UFC 199 marked the beginning of a new era in Ultimate. Thanks to regulations from the California Athletic Commission, the organization tested a new weighing model on the card, with athletes passing through the scales 30 hours before the event. Following the success of the initiative, “early weigh-in” will also be adopted at UFC Fight Night Ottawa, a fight night that takes place next Saturday (18).

The information was released by the “MMA Fighting” website. According to UFC vice-president of public relations Dave Sholler, in an interview with the publication, the fighters will have the official scales for the event between 9 am and 12 pm (Brasília time) in a room in the hotel where the event team is staying. If they reach the weight, everyone will be free to begin the rehydration process.

“The feedback we got from the fighters was very positive, so we are discussing with commissions around the world to get their opinions so we can move forward,” said the director.

Once again, then, the official weigh-in, scheduled by the UFC for 17pm (also Brasília time) will only be an “enactment”. At the event, the fighters will only have their weight revealed to the public and press, in addition to taking part in traditional face-offs.
