Barnett: “Velasquez is good, but the GP champion will be better”

Cain Velazquez, owner of the UFC heavyweight belt, has an unquestionable record. With nine fights and nine wins, the North American reached the title by knocking out the giant Brock Lesnar in a devastating way, but another fighter doesn't see Cain as the best fighter in the world. The veteran Josh barnett stated in an interview with MMA Junkie that Velasquez is a good fighter, but the Strikeforce heavyweight GP champion will be even better.

“I'm not saying Velasquez isn't good,” Barnett said. “I think he is showing great skills as a fighter and has evolved a lot,” he said. Barnett, however, is keen to point out that the way the Strikeforce GP is contested, in which he participates alongside greats like Werdum, Oveerem, Fedor and Pezão, is the best way to define the true champion.

“I really think the GP is the most concrete way to find out who the best heavyweight in the world is,” he said. “Of course, the winner of this tournament will be the best heavyweight in the world”, he added.

Josh Barnett will make his debut at the Strikeforce GP against Brett Rogers, a duel scheduled for April 17, in the United States.
