Maiquel Falcão: “My strategy was to win anyway”

Maiquel Falcao wins Gerald Harris

From extreme underdog to protagonist of the night. This was the rapid transition of the Brazilian Maiquel Falcao in the UFC. The Tupiniquim athlete debuted in the organization in the 123rd edition of the show, held last Saturday (23), and was a sniper in the fight against Gerald harris, but with great calm he controlled the fight and won the fight with a unanimous decision from the judges.

After almost a week of his successful debut, Maiquel is quite satisfied with his triumph and reveals his fears about avoiding a bad debut in Ultimate:

“My strategy was to win anyway,” he said. “The UFC is the biggest event on the planet and if you lose your first fight you could be close to being fired,” said Maiquel in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie. The Brazilian athlete revealed why he did not take the initiative to attack at the beginning of the fight and preferred to wait for his opponent's attack.

“Gerald (Harris) is a tough and skilled guy, so he couldn’t open the game. If I go after him, I knew I could be taken down”, said Maiquel. The fighter from the Chute Boxe team highlighted where all this tranquility in the Octagon comes from.

“I felt very confident from the beginning until the end of the fight. This calm comes from a combination of faith in God, training hard and the experience of more than 25 MMA fights”, he added.
