In an attempt to increase surveillance over athletes and minimize the chances of serious injuries and future consequences for MMA fighters, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NSAC) will implement a new exam protocol, which will now include brain exams.

The information was released by the daily “Las Vegas Review-Journal”. In an interview with the publication, the executive director of the NSAC and the doctor responsible for the new program, Dr. Charles Bernick, said that exams will be carried out regularly and that the data and information collected will be used for a study on brain injuries in combat sports.
