McGregor's 'Goodbye' to MMA breaks record among athletes on Twitter

The Irishman's tweet was reproduced hundreds of thousands of times, beating Kobe Bryant's retirement announcement

Conor McGregor, is definitely already the main star in MMA today and, why not, one of the biggest names in world sport. Further proof of the strength of the Irishman's name, current UFC featherweight champion, was given this Tuesday (19), when he published an enigmatic message in which he suggested that he was hanging up his gloves. Conor's tweet simply broke a historic number of reproductions, setting a new record among sportspeople.

In less than 24 hours, the message “I have decided to retire early. Thanks for the cheese (slang for money). Talk to you soon” published by McGregor received no less than 150 thousand retweets (replications by other users of the social network). The impressive milestone surpassed the poem published by NBA star Kobe Bryan when he announced his retirement from professional basketball and became the most reproduced message from a professional athlete in the last year.

At 27, Conor McGregor has a professional record of 19 wins and just three losses in MMA. “The Notorious”, as he is known, is the current UFC featherweight champion, but is coming off a defeat to Nate diaz at UFC 196, in a fight held in the welterweight division. Removed from the UFC 200 card after refusing to participate in a press conference, McGregor now continues to raise doubts about the veracity of his retirement.
