After running over Rashad evans in the main fight of UFC Tampa, this Saturday (16), Glover Teixeira was very direct in launching a challenge to Anthony Johnson, currently second in the official Ultimate light heavyweight rankings. The Brazilian believes that the duel would be interesting for the aspirations of both within the organization.

Johnson is coming off a victory over Ryan bader in January and then hoped to compete for the category belt. However, the competition for the title is going through a turbulent time, which involves the return of Jon Jones to the fights until the injury of the current champion, Daniel Cormier.
Jones and Cormier were scheduled to fight for the title next weekend at UFC 197. However, Cormier was injured and was replaced by Ovince St Preux. The winner of the new fight will receive the chance to compete for the category's definitive belt at a later date in the second half of the year.
Precisely for this reason, Glover believes that a fight between him and Johnson would come in handy. “'Rumble' deserves a title fight, of course. He's at the front of the line, but it's up to him to decide what he wants for his future. I mentioned his name because we see this soap opera between Jones and Cormier. Now, Cormier will face the winner of Jones vs. OSP, so who knows when that fight will happen. Johnson would spend the whole year doing nothing, so I wanted to give him something to do”, commented Glover, in a press conference after the fight.
UFC president Dana White is usually non-committal when asked about possible fights in the future. This time, he did it differently. "When he [Glover] challenged him, I thought, 'Oh, I like this fight!' It's a fun fight. I’ll be very honest, I like this fight,” he said.
