Immediately after leaving Daniel Cormier of revenge against Jon Jones On April 23rd, speculation began about a possible duel between the rivals in the Octagon's debut in New York, which should take place in the last quarter of 2016. If it depends on Cormier, however, the confrontation will happen sooner. In an interview, the current light heavyweight champion said he doesn't want to wait that long to face Jones and justified his decision to abandon the main fight of UFC 197.

“I did what I had to do. I wouldn't be able to fight to the best of my ability under those circumstances. It wouldn't have been my best, and, to fight against the Jon Jones and win, I have to be 100%. Even with all the problems we have with each other, I respect him for the athlete he is and what he brings to the Octagon. I need to be 100% to beat this guy. So I'm at peace with my decision. I don't know when we'll have another opportunity to face each other, nor do I know what the most realistic thing to do would be, but I don't want it to take too long. It sucks that I was the reason the fight was postponed. I would like the rematch to happen as soon as I am healthy. I'm 37 years old and I need to fight. The event in New York is a long way away, and waiting until that would be a bit too much for my plans”, said DC, to the North American website “MMA Junkie”.
To face Daniel Cormier or star in the long-awaited event in New York, however, Jon Jones first you need to overcome Ovince St Preux, substitute for the champion in the main fight of UFC 197. On the 23rd, Jones will face OSP for the interim light heavyweight title and the right to face Cormier next in the belt unification.
