Once again, last-minute problems change an Ultimate card on the eve of its release. Exactly ten days before it takes place, UFC Fight Night Tampa, scheduled for April 16th, has a new main fight. The change was caused by the injury of the American Tony Ferguson, which would face Khabib Nurmagomedov. Thus, the Russian is out of the event and the duel between Rashad evans e Glover Teixeira will be promoted to the most important combat post of the night.
According to Ferguson himself, on his official profile on Twitter, his departure from the card was motivated by the presence of “blood and other fluids in his lungs”. The duel between “El Cucuy” and Nurmagomedov was being considered as an eliminator for the lightweight title. The Ultimate organization did not say whether the fight will be rescheduled or whether Khabib will receive a title shot immediately.
UFC Fight Night Tampa takes place on April 16, at the Amalie Arena, in Tampa, Florida (USA). With the new main fight between light heavyweights Glover Teixeira e Rashad evans, another Brazilian also had his fight promoted on the card and will be the co-main event of the night. This is the former champion Lyoto Machida, who will face the veteran Dan Henderson.
