The battle to legalize MMA in the state of New York cost much more than effort on the part of the UFC. According to a report in the Las Vegas Review Journal, the organization spent more than US$2 million (R$7 million at current prices) on lobbying over the last seven years to convince politicians to approve mixed martial arts fights in the local.

MMA fights were finally legalized in New York last week, putting an end to the bureaucratic battle for the sport's approval. In recent years, the UFC has made great efforts to contribute to the release, including work done by the organization's partner, Lorenzo Fertitta, and Lawrence Epstein, head of operations, in order to “educate” legislators.

The UFC intends to hold two events in New York in 2016, in the second half of the year. For years, the organization dreamed of being able to set up an attraction at the Madison Square Garden gym, the stage for traditional boxing matches.
