In the incessant search for an opportunity to compete for the UFC featherweight belt, Frankie Edgar He didn't get exactly what he wanted. The North American will fight for a title at UFC 200, in July, but not against the current champion, Conor McGregor, and yes against José Aldo for the interim belt.

The news that McGregor will not put his belt on the line at UFC 200, even though he himself is confirmed on the card, is a sign that the Irishman could leave the featherweight division without even making a single title defense. In the main fight of the event in July, McGregor moves up to the welterweight division to have a rematch with Nate diaz."I don't know. I don't think he'll come back. I don't know if he'll come back if he wins, but maybe a defeat will force him to come back. It would be two defeats in another weight category. It would lose a lot of value”, analyzed Edgar, in an interview with the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.

If McGregor does not actually return to featherweight, the fight against Aldo could represent an opportunity for Edgar to finally win what would become the definitive title in the 66 kg category. Even so, the fight for the interim crown does not excite the athlete. “Let's just call it the 'number one contender's belt' because that's what it is. But I'll play the game. They already did this to Conor and gave him a belt. I’m going to play the whole game to make sure I have the fight, so that’s fine,” he commented.

UFC 200 will take place on July 9th, at the new T-Mobile arena, in Las Vegas, in the United States. The two fights in question will be rematches: Edgar was defeated by Aldo in February 2013, and McGregor suffered a submission against Diaz in March this year.
