On July 9th, in Las Vegas (USA), Aldo faces Frankie Edgar for the interim belt in the featherweight category. For the Brazilian, the fight against his old acquaintance will be just the first step towards his ultimate goal. “It wasn’t the fight we expected, but this could be the first step to regaining what was lost”, commented the Manauara, in an interview on the “Combate” channel website. “I really want this fight, I'm dead of thirst and starving and I really want it. That to me is worth much more than a glass of water and a plate of food. I want to get there and win well, because, as I said, it's the next step for me to win back the belt. First I have to go through him, and that’s how it will be done”, he guaranteed.

Furthermore, Aldo guarantees that the fight against Edgar is the first step towards realizing his “prophecy”: “I'll say again what I already warned you right after our fight: I said that by the end of the year Conor wouldn't have no more belt, it would be over, so you can be sure that for me, no matter what the result of the fight he is going to do, I know that I will win my fight and I know that by the end of the year the belt will be back with me ”, he declared.

Aldo and Edgar have already faced each other once, in February 2013, with the Brazilian narrowly winning by the judges' decision. McGregor, who knocked out Aldo in 13 seconds in December 2015, will also be at UFC 200: he will have a rematch against Nate diaz, in a fight that will not be worth the belt and will be held in the welterweight category.
