Brazilian fighter with the most fights in the UFC, lightweight Gleison Tibau admitted that he used banned substances before his last fight, in November last year, when he defeated Abel Trujillo in the UFC Sao Paulo.

The native of Rio Grande do Norte was caught in a test shortly after winning the fight quickly, by submission. The substance found was erythropoietin, which interferes with the production of red blood cells.

However, Tibau stated that he did not know that it was a banned substance and classified the episode as a “medical error”. "I am upset. I have to apologize to my fans because it was a medical error. We used a substance that we didn't think would lead to anything. We use it outside the competition period. I have a clear conscience that I used it without imagining that I was doing anything wrong. It will be difficult, but I will pay the price for my mistake”, acknowledged the Brazilian, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

At first, Tibau considered appealing against the exam results, but decided against it. “They asked me if I wanted to appeal, but it was very tiring. I don't want to appeal anymore. Enough. I thought it would be easier, but it is very demanding physically, financially and mentally. So, I decided not to appeal,” he explained.
