Former UFC champion Kevin Randleman dies at 44

Athlete, who also marked a season in Japan, died due to cardiorespiratory arrest

Former heavyweight champion and one of the precursors of MMA, American Kevin Randleman died in the early hours of Friday (12), in the United States, victim of a cardiorespiratory arrest. Randleman passed away shortly after being hospitalized due to pneumonia.

Two-time national champion wrestling university student in the United States, Randleman began his MMA career in 1996, in the Brazilian event “Universal Vale-Tudo Fighting”. In 1999, “The Monster”, as he was known, moved to the UFC and a few months later became the fourth heavyweight champion of what would become the biggest event on the planet.

Randleman ended his career in professional MMA with a record of 17 wins and 16 losses, but he had stints in some of the main events on the planet, such as PRIDE and Strikeforce, and collected duels against the biggest legends of the sport, such as Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Pedro Rizzo, Fedor Emelianenko, Kazushi Sakuraba, Quinton Rampage, Mauritius Shogun and Mirko Cro Cop.

Randleman leaves behind a wife and three children.
