Coming off a good victory over Andrei Arlovski At Strikeforce, Antonio “Pezão” Silva may face the biggest challenge of his career. As revealed by the organization's president, Scott Coker, the Brazilian will face the current heavyweight champion alistair overeem.
The current title holder hoped to defend his belt against the winner of the duel between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabrício Werdum, but the Russian's defeat and the Brazilian's surgery meant that these clashes were postponed, opening up the opportunity for Pezão.
“Overeem should return in October, probably against (Antônio) Pezão. It all depends on when Werdum will return, but everything indicates that he will not return until the first quarter of next year”, said Coker, in an interview with MMAFighting.
