Massaranduba beats Pearson and guarantees Brazil 100% at UFC Boston

Another Brazilian on the night, Fracimar Bodão won in the fight that opened the card and even proposed to his girlfriend

It may seem surprising, but Francisco Massaranduba He is an athlete with the best recent record to have participated in TUF Brasil 1 and he does so by fighting two categories below the one he performed in on the reality show. This Sunday (17), in the fight that opened the main card of UFC Fight Night 81, the Brazilian reached five consecutive victories in the octagon with a dominant victory over Englishman Ross Pearson.

In another fight involving a Brazilian on the card, Francimar Bodão beat Elvis Mutapcic by decision of the judges and, still on top of the Octagon, he proposed to his girlfriend.

At the beginning of the first round, however, massaranduba He presented difficulties due to the movement that the Englishman showed in the first half, but he balanced the fight throughout the period. At the end of the assault, massaranduba he still managed a very plastic takedown on Pearson, which helped him get the better of him in the opening five minutes.

In the last round, without the same energy as before, massaranduba sought the sprint very early and, despite having shaken Pearson in the opening seconds, he spent the final stretch of the duel turning around the octagon and defending himself. At the end of the fight, the Brazilian was declared the winner in a unanimous decision by the judges – with two 30 x 27 and one 29 x 28.

The first Brazilian to step into the Octagon, Francimar Barroso, known as “Bodão”, faced Bosnian Elvis Mutapcic and had no trouble coming away with victory. Despite some close quarters, the Brazilian was dominant in most of the fight, whether in striking or in the takedown game, and controlled the actions mainly in the first two rounds.

At the end of the fight, Bodão was declared the winner in a unanimous decision by the judges, with one of the judges giving him victory in the three partials and two others in two of the three. Even before the triumph, however, Bodão took advantage of the UFC cameras approaching to ask his girlfriend, who was watching the fight on TV in Brazil, to marry her live and for the whole world to see.

Cotê beats Sounders for third consecutive victory

In the veterans' duel that closed the UFC FN 81 preliminary card, former middleweight title challenger Patrick Cotê got the better of Ben Saunders and won by knockout in the second round. With the triumph, Cotê now has three consecutive victories in Ultimate.

Cotê's victory was even more surprising because in the first round the Canadian almost submitted the specialist in grapple. Despite the good moment, however, Saunders resisted and took the fight to the second round. In the opening minutes, however, Cotê managed to fit in good uppercuts No. clinch and took his rival to the canvas, finishing the job on the ground and pound. After the duel, he even asked for a duel against Nick Diaz, who will return from suspension in August, for his next fight.

Herman turns around and knocks out Boetsch with a knee

Tim Boetsch looked like he was going to recover from the two defeats he had suffered in his last fights, but the outcome of his fight against Ed Herman ended up being the same and the “Barbarian”, as he is known, ended up in a complicated situation in the organization.

After being dominated in the first round and even losing the partial, Herman recovered in the second round and used his dangerous clinch to open the way for the knockout with a well-aimed knee to Boetsch's chin. With his rival on the ground, a few more punches were enough for the referee to end the fight and Ed was declared the winner.
