The year 2016 did not start with good news for Frankie Edgar. After shipping Chad Mendes and place himself in the position of number one challenger in the featherweight category, the North American was condemned to “limbo” with the rise of Conor McGregor for light weight.

The Irishman will face the champion of the top category, Rafael dos Anjos, in March, which puts the fight for the featherweight title on hold. Thus, Edgar confesses to being undecided between the two options he has in front of him: either wait to face McGregor in the middle of the year, or fight before this period for the money.
“Honestly, I still don’t know what I’m going to do. I still need to consider some things. Do I wait for Conor? What if someone gets hurt? Do I wait to fight Conor or do I fight first to make money? That’s what I’m thinking”, explained Edgar, in an interview with the North American newspaper “Los Angeles Times”.
The former lightweight champion did not hide his frustration at once again being left without his dream title fight. “For the last three years, I've been trying to make all my fights lead to a title shot, and it doesn't seem to be working. I stopped fighting more often and making money, so I ended up in a situation where I had no money and no fight. It’s something I need to consider,” he added.
The fight between McGregor and Dos Anjos has not been officially confirmed, but it is expected to be the main attraction at UFC 197, on March 5th. Recently, the Irishman stated that he intends to defend his featherweight title in July at UFC 200.
