The Japanese organization Rizin made its debut in the fight world in the last days of 2015, with the fight week headlined by the return of Fedor Emelianenko to MMA. Excited by the success of the initial edition, the event's president, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, plans a new fight show to be held in Russia in 2016.
One of the biggest names in MMA in history, Russian Emelianenko defeated Jaideep Singh quickly on December 31st, returning from three-year retirement with victory. Sakakibara believes this is the ideal cue for an event in Russia.
“We want to organize a Rizin event in Russia as soon as possible. Perhaps this will happen in 2106. Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Hiroshi Hase, gave the Fedor Emelianenko gifts from the Japanese government. The relationship between Russia and Japan is strengthening and we would like to build a bridge that reinforces this even further”, declared Sakakibara, according to the Russian website “RSports”.
Rizin's next event is expected to take place on April 17th, in Nagoya, Japan, possibly with Fedor again taking part in the main fight.
