Natalia Silva will finally have the opportunity to reach the top of the world MMA this Saturday (3), when she faces Chinese Wang Cong with the strawweight belt (up to 52,1 kg) at stake. With Mackenzie Dern present throughout the week, she will step into the octagon with the aim of not only fastening the most coveted belt in the sport, but also of being the second chapter of a Brazilian hegemony among women. She spoke about the subject in an interview with 'MMA Fighting' this Thursday (1).
According to the athlete from Minas Gerais, the chance to repeat Dern's achievement would be a crucial moment for the growth of women's sports in Brazil. In the early 2010s, the nation experienced its best moment in Mixed Martial Arts, when Renan Barão , José Aldo , Anderson Silva , and Júnior Cigano held titles simultaneously.

“I truly believe in it. I’m going to do my part on Saturday. I’m going for the belt. I’ve dedicated myself a lot to this, I’ve trained hard, I spent a month living and training in Mexico because of the altitude. I gave up many things to live this experience, to train, to focus only on the fight, and I’m going to do my part. And I also believe that Amanda has all the potential to achieve this. Three Brazilian champions at the same time would be a landmark in history. It would be a landmark, a historic moment for women’s MMA and for Brazilian MMA,” she declared.

If Natalia manages to do her part and defeat Cong, there's no better name in women's MMA to try and complete the trinity than Amanda Nunes . Despite facing a tough challenge in the form of Kayla Harrison , the best female fighter in the history of the sport returns after three years of retirement to try and reclaim the bantamweight title (up to 61,2 kg). The two will face off in the co-main event of UFC 334 on November 14th. It's worth remembering that the Bahia native also reigned in the now-defunct featherweight division (up to 65,7 kg).
