Josh Hokit is about to fight for the heavyweight title (up to 120,2 kg), but admits he could build his career in another division. Scheduled to face Ciryl Gane at UFC 334 on November 14th, the American claims he could make the light heavyweight limit (up to 93 kg), but prefers to remain among the heavier athletes for a specific reason.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Hokit revealed that he currently weighs around 107 kg and believes he could get down to 93 kg without much difficulty. Despite this, the fighter questioned the existence of weight classes, stating that they allow some athletes to protect themselves from confrontations with larger opponents.

“I weigh about 107 kg. I could probably make 93 kg without any problem. But why do weight categories exist? People are hiding behind them,” said Josh Hokit.

Next, the American fighter recalled the origins of MMA to justify his view. According to Hokit, in the early days of the sport, fighters simply signed up to face each other, without weight difference being a determining factor, something that, for him, represents the most primitive essence of the sport.

"When this sport started, people simply signed up to fight each other. It didn't matter what weight category it was. That's the most primitive thing there is," the loudmouth concluded.
