Renato Moicano exposed the reality of MMA when reacting to the scare suffered by Raoni Barcelos at UFC Vegas 121, held last Saturday (26). On that occasion, the Brazilian faced Raul Rosas Jr. and ended up fainting in the fifth round due to exhaustion. The scene, in the view of the fighter and YouTuber, highlights the difficulty of a career in the sport and the motivations that make the 39-year-old veteran continue competing.
In a video published on his YouTube channel, Renato Moicano highlighted Raoni Barcelos 's performance inside the octagon and praised the high level shown by the Brazilian even at 39 years old. The Brasília native also emphasized the difficulty of a career in MMA, especially given the risks involved in the sport, and reminded viewers that the veteran was facing an opponent almost 20 years younger.
“ Raoni Barcelos represents the spirit of the fighter, the spirit of the warrior. A 39-year-old guy who keeps improving… Beating a kid almost 20 years younger… I don't know if he'll fight again, but look how difficult this MMA career is. We're talking about a very dangerous sport,” said Renato Moicano.
Moicano also drew attention to the lack of recognition that, in his view, Raoni Barcelos receives despite the quality he has shown throughout his career. The fighter stated that there is a possibility that the Brazilian will not compete again and stressed that, regardless of the future, his career deserves to be celebrated. For the Brasília native, the veteran does not fight for money, fame or recognition, but for glory.
“We have to understand that Raoni Barcelos isn't one of the most famous fighters in Brazil, even though he's excellent. He doesn't have the career recognition he deserves. That's a tough situation; we might not see him fighting again. Having said all that, a round of applause for him, because I know Raoni Barcelos doesn't fight for money, doesn't fight for fame, doesn't fight for recognition. Raoni Barcelos fights for glory,” concluded the Brasília native.
Raoni Barcelos was winning the fight at UFC Vegas 121.
Although Raul Rosas Jr. won the fight , Raoni Barcelos had been getting the upper hand until the incident in the fifth round. The duel was quite action-packed, with takedowns and hard blows from both sides.
Before the interruption, the official scorecards from the referees showed an advantage for the Brazilian, with three scores of 39-37 in favor of Barcelos.
