Mauricio Ruffy broke his silence after the knockout defeat suffered against Arman Tsarukyan last Saturday (19), at UFC 331 , in Los Angeles (USA). The Brazilian was knocked out in the first round, but left the octagon with the feeling that he could have changed the course of the fight.
In a video posted on his Instagram this Wednesday (23), Ruffy recalled the moments leading up to the knockout and explained how he saw the fight at that moment. Alexander Volkanovski 's partner also pointed out what he considers to have been decisive for the result and acknowledged the merit of his opponent.

“The first time I took a punch, it was a flashdown. I felt the fight in my hands, I felt his strength starting to wane. He was already hurt and his eye was very swollen. He was going to take a lot of punches up there. In my head, I knew I was going to finish the fight in the second round. The mistake was entirely mine, it was my fault, my carelessness, and credit to him, to Arman,” said Mauricio Ruffy.
“When the guys yelled at me that there were ten seconds left and he went for my legs, that was actually the best thing for me. I thought, ‘He’s going to expend a little more energy now. The second round is going to start and I’m going to knock him out.’ There were four seconds left, so I had strikes to land. I could have moved away from the cage, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to use that moment against him, and it was a good idea. I just got careless. I relaxed my defense, which is something I don’t normally do. So I paid the price for it,” the Brazilian concluded.
