The house fell so brutally for Gable Stevenson at UFC 331 that Jon Jones had to step in to clean up his image. At the event held last Saturday (19), in California (USA), the Olympic wrestling champion was surprised by Sean Sharaf and ended up being brutally knocked out in an incredible 12 seconds. Seeing his friend and pupil being canceled for his actions before and after the fight, the MMA legend took responsibility upon himself.

Before the heavyweight bout (up to 120,2 kg) took place, Gable, considered by many to be a kind of 'New Jon Jones ', was the overwhelming favorite and, brimming with confidence, guaranteed he would put on a show at UFC 331 , ignoring any chance of his opponent pulling off a surprise. However, Sharaf achieved the impossible and pulled off a historic upset, forcing the wrestler out of the octagon before his victory was even announced.

As expected, the fans, who were already on the underdog's side, booed the fighter for his attitude, and many considered him a sore loser. Aware of the hate Gable was receiving, Jones defended him and took the blame for his premature exit from the octagon. In any case, despite his friend losing his undefeated MMA record, the veteran assures that his future in the UFC is bright.

“I saw some reports on the internet and really wanted to clear things up. It was my decision to take Gable directly backstage after the fight. Honestly, it was the first time I’ve been through a situation like this,” the MMA legend wrote on his official 'X' account.

“My immediate reaction was to take my friend to the backstage area to make sure he was okay. Gable’s work ethic and will to win are there, and I support him and believe he will be one of the best heavyweights in the UFC. He will be back, I’m sure,” he concluded.
