Mauricio Ruffy had a night to forget at UFC 331 , held last Saturday (19). The Brazilian faced Arman Tsarukyan in the co-main event, in a duel that could define the next challenger for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg). Despite being considered superior in stand-up fighting, Ruffy ended up being knocked out by a strong elbow from the 'Batman of MMA'.

With the defeat, Mauricio Ruffy suffered his third career loss, his second inside the UFC octagon. Arman Tsarukyan , on the other hand, achieved his 24th career victory and took another step towards his dream of fighting for the division's belt.

Mauricio Ruffy started the fight cautiously, maintaining distance while Arman Tsarukyan gradually tried to close the gap. In his first more forceful attack, the Brazilian landed a straight punch and then defended a takedown attempt with a good sprawl.
Shortly after, Tsarukyan went for the takedown again and managed to pin Ruffy against the cage. The Brazilian defended the attack once more, even sitting down during the fight, but managed to get back to his feet and remained under pressure from the Armenian until the end of the round.
Now free from the clinch, Arman feinted another takedown attempt and quickly switched his attack to an elbow strike. The blow landed squarely on Ruffy's face, knocking the Brazilian unconscious in the final seconds of the first round.
