Ronda Rousey experienced a year of great turbulence in 2015. The American fighter rose to stardom after receiving several awards, acting in films and winning two fights in the UFC, but ended the year on a low note with the defeat she suffered against Holly holm, in November, which cost him his unbeaten record in MMA and his Ultimate title.

After intense months for the former champion and her family, Maria Burns-Ortiz, the fighter's older sister, reflected on all the events that took place in 2015. She, who is a journalist and wrote Ronda's biography, “My Fight, Sua Luta”, produced an extensive column for “Vice” magazine, in which he admits that his sister “went through a lot” until suffering defeat.

“There were three fights on three continents in the space of nine months. There was the book tour, meetings in Hollywood, scripts to read, photo essays. Covers of various magazines, from famous to unknown. He presented a TV show, won awards, released films, trained for fights, flew, appeared in several programs. Her image was everywhere – interviews, interviews, interviews. It was too much. This is not an excuse, it is a fact”, pondered the journalist.

Maria reported that her main memories of the year are of the moments she shared with Ronda, and not of the fights carried out by her sister. “We celebrate the victory over Zingano cat, in February, singing 'Congratulations' in a restaurant. We spent the week in Rio on the beach, praying at Christ the Redeemer and feeding monkeys after their knockout over Bethe Correia. I remember that more than the fights themselves. Then we arrived in Australia, where we expected Ronda to win – just as she always was and always will be. But she didn't win. I didn't watch the fight again or read about it. I see no point in reliving the moment I saw someone I care about have their soul crushed,” she added.

However, Maria Burns-Ortiz stated that Ronda's defeat in November is not the final chapter in the fighter's trajectory – on the contrary, it will represent an opportunity for resurgence. “The world saw Ronda fall, but I've already had the opportunity to see her rise again. While some people think of Ronda's 2015 for a single moment, they see it as the end. In some ways, these people are right – but this means we are at a new beginning,” she added.
