Alexander Volkanovski spoke again about the great names in MMA history and analyzed what he considers necessary for a fighter to reach the highest level in stand-up fighting. For the featherweight champion (up to 65,8 kg), it's not enough to have knockout power or the ability to decide a fight with just one strike.
On his YouTube channel, the former featherweight champion highlighted a great UFC legend and explained why he considers him above the rest when it comes to technique, intelligence, and striking skill. In the Australian's assessment, some fighters may stand out for the power of their strikes, but few manage to combine different technical resources and maintain that level of excellence throughout the fights.

“I mean, when it comes to technique, skill, general fighting intelligence, timing, reach, you know what I mean? When it comes to that overall skill and as an art, I would say that Izzy is the best striker the world has ever seen. Some people say, ‘Oh, but he lost that fight,’ and they think, ‘Oh, that guy has a powerful punch.’ Okay, there are guys who have a powerful punch. But can they still beat someone so technical? Of course they can. It’s a combat sport. Anything can happen,” said Alexander Volkanovski.

Despite his recognition, Israel Adesanya is currently far from the peak that made him one of the greatest names in middleweight history. At 37 years old, the Nigerian has a professional record of 24 wins and six losses.
His recent form also contrasts sharply with the dominance he displayed during his first reign in the UFC. Adesanya has lost his last four fights, losses to Sean Strickland , Dricus Du Plessis , Nassourdine Imavov , and Joe Pyfer.

Volkanovski is considered one of the greatest featherweights in history and arrives at UFC 333 on October 24th in Abu Dhabi, seeking another important title defense to solidify his legacy in the division. The current champion, boasting one of the most successful careers in the division, will make his second title defense since regaining the belt after defeating Diego Lopes again by unanimous decision in January of this year.
On the other side, Alexander Volkanovski will face Movsar Evloev , who maintains an undefeated record of 20 wins and comes from important victories over names like Aljamain Sterling , Arnold Allen , and Lerone Murphy . The Russian has 10 fights in the UFC and will have, for the first time, the opportunity to compete for the organization's title.
