Alex Poatan hasn't given up on seeking an immediate rematch against Ciryl Gane in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) octagon. Knocked out by the Frenchman at UFC Casa Branca , the Brazilian attributed the result to a lucky strike from his opponent and illegal elbows that, according to him, directly influenced the outcome of the fight. Now, the Pataxó fighter aims for a rematch with the heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) to resume his path towards the third belt of his career in the world's largest MMA organization.
In a video posted on Instagram, Alex Poatan stated that, after a period of rest and hard work, he has been following the different opinions on who his next opponent should be. In the Brazilian's view, however, a rematch against Ciryl Gane is the most sensible matchup at this time.
“After a long time resting, after a lot of work, after my last fight, many people have been saying: 'Who should Alex fight?'. I see many opinions, but I think the fight that makes sense is me against Ciryl Gane . I'm going to work on that. From what I see, it's something that will work out,” said Alex Poatan.

Poatan also highlighted that a new opportunity against the Frenchman would allow him to correct the problems he showed in their first encounter. The former champion believes he could return to the octagon to once again demonstrate his potential and prove that he can still achieve great things in his career.
“Since some really bad things happened in the last fight, I think now, with another opportunity, I can come back and show what I can do, what I can achieve, which is the third belt. I'm very excited about it and I'm going to work hard for it. Let's go!”, concluded the former champion.
Cyril Gane gives the green light for a rematch against Alex Poatan.
In a statement to 'RMC Sport Combat', Ciryl Gane stated that he doesn't yet know if he will have a rematch against Tom Aspinall , but made it clear that this remains his desire. The Frenchman, however, stressed that he is willing to face Alex Poatan.
“We don’t know if there will be a rematch against Tom Aspinall , I would like to face Tom Aspinall , but if there’s someone else, that’s fine. I would like to have a rematch, whether against Aspinall or against Pereira,” said the Frenchman.
