The rivalry between the athletes intensified after Goncharov stated that Malhadinho had become stronger and gained weight rapidly, insinuating that he might have used banned substances to enhance his performance. In an interview with ACA itself, the Brazilian defended himself. It is worth noting that, throughout his career, Jailton never failed a doping test and, upon leaving the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg), was always seen as one of the lightest fighters in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg).

“I laughed at his statement. I thought it was hypocritical. From what I hear from Brazilians at the ACA, it's constantly mentioned that Goncharov is the one who uses these substances a lot, abusing them recklessly. So, it's funny that he's talking about this,” said the Brazilian.

“I’ve been undergoing rigorous anti-doping tests for four years and have always stayed clean. I can’t say the same about him. As for my weight, you’ll see for yourselves on weigh-in day. It’s far from the 120 kg he mentioned,” he concluded.
