Frank Mir's daughter reveals the damage caused by MMA to the former UFC champion.

Years of fighting have left deep marks on Frank Mir , and the extent of this wear and tear has been revealed by someone who witnessed it all firsthand. The daughter of the former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), Bella Mir, revealed details about her father's current physical and cognitive condition and admitted that his trajectory directly influences how she intends to conduct her own MMA career.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani's YouTube channel last Tuesday (1st), Bella explained that she closely followed the deterioration of her father's physical condition after a long career in martial arts. According to her, Frank underwent several surgeries and currently faces difficulties even walking.

“His brain isn’t doing well today. He’s already had his neck fused, his lower back fused, his hip replaced, his knee replaced… there are times when he needs a cane,” Bella Mir stated.

The statement came just after Bella suffered her first professional defeat, against Alex Apodaca, on Dana White's Contender Series. The fighter stated that she intends to follow a different path from her father and avoid accumulating the same level of damage throughout her career.

“He’s fought so many wars before, and it’s taking its toll. I’d like to try to get quick wins and not have as many wars as I had in my last fight. Obviously, if I need to, I’ll fight, but I don’t know if I want to have 32 fights,” the athlete explained.

Despite being the favorite on Contender Series, Bella couldn't impose her game against Apodaca. Her opponent controlled much of the fight, avoided takedowns, and was more efficient in striking, securing the victory after 15 minutes of action.

An upset occurred in the Contender Series, with Alex Apodaca ending the undefeated streak of the 23-year-old prospect. With this result, the fighter secured her place in the UFC's bantamweight division (up to 61,2 kg), while Bella Mir will have to rebuild her career after her first defeat.
