Alexander Volkanovski adopted a rigorous training routine to keep up with Movsar Evloev . Scheduled to face the Russian in the main event of UFC 333, the Australian intensified his grappling training to prepare for his opponent's main strength. During his preparation, he was even submitted by Mauricio Ruffy.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Volkanovski shared part of his training routine, which he dubbed 'Meat Grinder'. In the session, the featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) faces his training partners, who start rested, while the Australian begins each round in unfavorable positions and must work to survive and escape adverse situations.
