Pure humility! Fan Glover Teixeira praises and highlights the greatness of Maurício Shogun: 'Greater than me'

It's no secret that Glover Teixeira is an MMA legend and that, despite his grandiose status, success hasn't gone to his head. And proof of that was what happened after Spaten Fight Night 3. Last Saturday (29), in São Paulo, the athlete shone in the main fight by defeating Maurício Shogun in boxing by unanimous decision. Happy with the important triumph, the Minas Gerais native didn't forget his opponent and showed great fair play.

Always sincere, Glover gave a lesson in humility and made a point of praising Shogun. And the athlete's stance is fair, as the professional made his mark on MMA, being champion of PRIDE and the UFC. It's true that the end of Rua's career was somewhat disappointing, but Teixeira ignored those adverse results and openly expressed his admiration for him, recognizing his superiority.

“I knew Shogun is one of the best warriors. For me, it was a dream come true to fight a legend like Shogun, an idol. Shogun is bigger than me. Shogun, in terms of record, was PRIDE champion at 23 years old, he's a great idol,” said the MMA legend in an interview with 'Combate'.

“I’ve been a fan of Shogun since PRIDE. I was a kid watching Shogun win fights and wanting to fight in his place, wanting to be there, to share the ring with Shogun, it would be a great honor. Of course, maximum respect for this guy, who is a sensational guy,” he concluded.

Glover Teixeira's history in MMA

Glover Teixeira , 46, made his mark on MMA and became a legend. The Brazilian began his career in the sport in 2002, became the UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) in 2021, and retired in 2023.

In this style of fighting, the veteran built a record of 33 wins, 28 by stoppage (18 by knockout and ten by submission), and nine losses. His main victories were over Anthony Smith , Jan Błachowicz, Jared Cannonier , Quinton Rampage Jackson , Rashad Evans , Ryan Bader , and Thiago Marreta.
