Daniel Cormier defended Usman Nurmagomedov after the incident involving the Russian at UFC Shanghai , held last Saturday (29). After watching his brother, Umar Nurmagomedov , be brutally knocked out by Song Yadong , the former UFC and PFL champion invaded the octagon and almost landed an elbow on the Chinese fighter. For DC, however, the action was nothing more than an instinctive reaction to the situation.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Cormier explained that Song Yadong ran towards Usman immediately after the knockout, while the Russian tried to prevent the two from colliding. According to the former champion, there was no deliberate attempt to strike the Chinese fighter with an elbow, and the images should not be interpreted as an attack.

“ Song Yadong is running towards Usman, Usman tries to stop him, as if they were going to collide. He didn't elbow him, let's stop creating conspiracy theories, guys, he didn't elbow him,” said Daniel Cormier.
Cormier also emphasized that Usman did not physically assault Yadong during the incident. According to the former champion, the Russian's reaction was motivated solely by his strong bond with his brother and his desire to be by Umar's side immediately after the defeat.
"He didn't attack Song Yadong . If there's someone you love immensely and want to run to their side at that moment, it's your brother," concluded the former champion.
With the defeat, Umar Nurmagomedov suffered his second loss in 22 career fights, the first by knockout.
