Max Holloway has a big question mark over his future in the UFC. Defeated by Charles Oliveira at UFC 326, the Hawaiian lost the BMF belt, but recovered by moving up to the welterweight division (up to 77 kg) and defeating Conor McGregor at UFC 329. Still without a defined fight, former rival Dustin Poirier offered a suggestion for the fighter's future.

During an appearance on the 'Deep Waters' program, Poirier believes Holloway is unlikely to receive a title shot in the welterweight division and sees a rematch between the two as a more interesting possibility. In the view of the former interim lightweight champion, a fight between Holloway and Justin Gaethje in the 70kg division would make a lot of sense.

Makhachev responded in kind, questioning Holloway's authority to make such comments, highlighting that the Hawaiian had never won titles in two different divisions. To end the exchange of provocations, Holloway doubled down and appeared in a new live stream displaying his featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) and BMF belts.
