Anthony Hernandez didn't win at UFC Sacramento, but he left the octagon with the respect of the crowd and Dana White. The American headlined the event against Gregory Rodrigues and ended up losing by unanimous decision, after his leg was badly damaged during the fight and he resisted until the end without being knocked out.
After the event, Dana White highlighted the resilience shown by Hernandez during the fight. According to the UFC president, the leg injuries could have ended the fight in the second round if the opponent had been a different fighter.
Finally, the UFC president assessed that, although Hernandez did not achieve victory, his performance in front of his home crowd earned him even more respect among fans, especially for having put on such a tough fight in his hometown.
“His leg was pretty badly hurt today. Realistically, for most guys, this fight probably would have ended in the second round. But again, I think the crowd really cheered him on tonight. He showed a lot of determination, and these are the kinds of fights, especially in your hometown, where you earn a lot of respect. You didn’t win the fight, but you earned a lot of respect,” said Dana White.
