Glover Teixeira returns to competition on August 29th, when he faces Maurício Shogun in the main event of Spaten Fight Night. Two legends of Brazilian MMA and former UFC light heavyweight champions (up to 93 kg), the veterans will face off in a boxing match that will mark the fighters' return.
In an interview with the American website MMA Junkie, this Thursday (20), Glover revealed that he received a special incentive to accept the challenge. One of Alex Poatan 's main partners in his mixed martial arts career, the former champion said that the current star encouraged him to return to competition. The fighter competed in boxing tournaments before arriving in mixed martial arts.

“I’m always training, but every now and then I put on my gloves and do a lighter workout with Alex (Poatan). I train with Yousri (Belgaroui), but nothing too intense, you know? After all, I don’t do real sparring anymore since I’m retired,” said Glover Teixeira.
“Then Alex said, ‘Glover, you have to come back and fight.’ Later, Ana Hissa commented, ‘Look, I work with Spaten and they’re trying to organize a fight. Do you want to fight at Spaten Boxing?’ I replied, ‘Absolutely, I want to fight. I love boxing,’” the former UFC champion added.
At 46 years old, Glover Teixeira hasn't competed professionally in MMA since January 2023, when he was defeated by Jamahal Hill in a fight for the light heavyweight title. Now, the Brazilian returns to the ring to face Shogun, who also made his mark in the division and won the title in 2010.
The former champion even fought afterwards.

Despite retiring from MMA, Glover returned to competition a few months later in grappling. In June 2023, the Brazilian defeated Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4.
